Lenovo’s upcoming ThinkPad tablet is scheduled for release on August 23 at a starting price of $479.99. The business-oriented device will ship with Android’s Honeycomb 3.1 operating system and a standard hardware loadout.
Inside the ThinkPad tab is Nvidia’s Tegra 2 dual-core processor operating at 1 GHz and 1 GB of system memory. The 10.1-inch, IPS display will feature a resolution of 1280 x 800 coated with Corning Gorilla glass. Tablets will be available in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB capacities.
By itself, the ThinkPad tablet doesn’t particularly stand out from the seemingly hundreds of other 10.1-inch Android handhelds already available, but the optional accessories list could attract some attention.
Lenovo’s tablet dock offers charging, data synchronization and device expansion in an ergonomic vertical-positioning stand. The device includes a micro USB port, HDMI port, stereo out, microphone in and a USB 2.0 port. Additionally, it is configurable with the ThinkPad USB keyboard or Edge wireless keyboard / mouse combo.
A tablet pen and keyboard folio case are also available for an additional fee. Graphic artists or those familiar with older Lenovo “tablets” will likely appreciate the stylus pen more than newcomers.
The keyboard folio converts the tablet into a netbook-style device similar to Asus’ Transformer tablet which has been quite successful in recent months.
In addition to the accessories, Lenovo is preloading the tablet with 25 applications meant to provide a well-rounded out-of-the-box experience. Some of the more popular applications include Netflix and Kindle for Android.
