Software giant Microsoft has begun cooperation with Swedish company Tobii to develop a new way to manage computers through sight, said the technology blog Gizmodo. The technology, called Gaze Control, is based on fine rectangular detector which is mounted centrally above or below the frame on the screen of a laptop or desktop computer.

After a short calibration process, the device begins to successfully detect the eyes of the user with precision 0.5 cm

Andreas Olsson, Business Manager at Tobii, stated that "image of Windows 8 is the perfect platform to use Gaze Control, mainly due to its large Live Tile buttons."

Main menu navigation is done entirely by sight and becomes one-button, which serves as a selection. User "select" button or a link to view, then simply press the button. When you hold the button on the screen appears less popuprozrachno circle that shows exactly where the eye focuses the person behind the monitor.

Microsoft's attempts at innovation in the user interface are driven by their desire to serve a single operating system on all platforms - but while smartphones and tablets with touch control is an innovative and modern, with desktop and laptop technology to navigate with a mouse and keyboard are more than 30 years.

In the video below Andreas Olsson illustrates the functionality of Tobii Gaze Control:
