BlackBerry New Messenger 6 Launched

RIM is currently going through crisis mainly related to management and sales. Although in the midst of all the trouble, if there is one thing that the company could brag about, it would be the BlackBerry Messenger which lets BB users keep in touch with their friends and family. The Canadian company has now introduced the BlackBerry Messenger 6, which comes with some improvements as compared to the previous versions.  With the new BB Messenger 6, there is support for connected apps which will let the Messenger integrate deeply with third party applications such as Foursquare and others. Games will have BB Messenger built right into them, so that's another new feature. Also new to BB Messenger is the ability to send messages to friends who do not have this IM client. The conversations will be displayed in the usual manner which is a very welcome addition. The IM client has been praised in the past for the features that it provides. It seems that RIM knows what's going right for the company and has decided to improve it. It is being said that more connected apps will be added to the list in the coming days, but for now Foursquare and Wikitude are the only connected apps. Users with devices running on BB OS v 4.5 or higher can head over to the BlackBerry App World to download the new BB Messenger.  This clearly shows that RIM hasn't given up hope to come up in the cellphone biz again. With the company announcing a couple of handsets, it seems like a last ditch effort to get stable again. A lot counts on the upcoming devices, so RIM wouldn't want anything to go wrong. In the meantime, Apple has developed a competitor to the BB Messenger in the form of iMessage, which will break cover after the iOS 5 update is out.
