Even though the Motorola XOOM was a bit late to the Indian tablet scene, it is now making some noise in the market. Being the world's first Honeycomb tablet, the XOOM is competing with the likes of the Acer Iconia Tab A500, the HTC Flyer, and the BlackBerry PlayBook in the country. Currently with Google's Android 3.1 update out, Motorola has decided to roll it out for its tablet in India. This comes as very good news for XOOM owners in India because it was launched here just a month ago. There are a bunch of new features that will come bundled with this update, so this isn't just a casual update. The update went live yesterday i.e. July 29.
The new update will considerably improve multi-tasking features on the XOOM with which, users can get visual access to a large number of apps. This will basically let users work more efficiently on the XOOM. Moving on to the next feature, users can now use the XOOM with Bluetooth keyboards and mice to improve typing and navigation \ scrolling. Next up is widgets. Users can finally change the size of the widget by stretching it vertically or horizontally. This again, improves on the idea of customization allowing the users to change widget sizes accordingly. New and improved Wi-Fi lock features will let the XOOM stay connected with the local Wi-Fi network even when the screen is locked. Also, users will now be able to access the SD card slot in the XOOM, which will extend the maximum storage to 64 GB when a 32 GB microSD card is added. These are not all, there are a couple of minor bug fixes as well that have been dealt with accordingly in this particular update. The Adobe Flash Player will come included in the update along with a File Manager app for data management on the tablet.
Motorola will be rolling out this update OTA (over the air), so the user will be prompted when the update is ready. All the user has to do is tap on a few permissions and that should be it. The user can alternatively postpone the update as well by simply heading over to the settings and doing the needful. It is recommended that users carry out the download on a Wi-Fi connection so as to avoid any extra data charges.
