Cara Cepat Membaca Teks Bahasa Inggris

Setelah sebelumnya kita membahas narrative text, salah satu jenis teks dalam bahasa Inggris, sekarang saatnya kita membahas cara cepat membaca teks berbahasa Inggris agar kita dapat membaca dengan cepat, efektif, dan praktis.

Banyak faktor yang membuat kita bisa membaca teks bahasa Inggris dengan lebih cepat. Salah satunya adalah pemahaman kita atau, lebih tepatnya, kemampuan kita dalam pelafalan (pronunciation). Jika kita belum bisa cara mengucapkan teks berbahasa Inggris dengan baik, maka kita pun akan lebih lambat dalam membaca teks bahasa Inggris tersebut. (baca : Video belajar Pronunciation)

Nah, untuk lebih singkatnya, mari kita baca cara cepat membaca teks berbahasa Inggris di bawah ini :

1. Read frequently. The more you read, the more opportunities you have to practice reading faster.

Sering membaca. Semakin sering anda membaca, semakin banyak kesempatan anda berlatih membaca lebih cepat.

2.  Avoid moving your lips when you read, or talking to yourself in your head. Doing so slows your reading down because speech is slower than reading.

Hindari menggerakkan lidah anda ketika membaca, atau berbicara pada diri sendiri dalam kepala anda. Melakukan hal tersebut (menggerakkan lidah dan berbicara sendiri dalam otak) memperlambat bacaan anda karena berbicara itu lebih lambat daripada membaca.

3.   Read material with large fonts to make it easier to read faster and to avoid skipping lines.

Baca materi dengan font yang besar membuat kita lebih mudah membaca cepat, dan hindari melewatkan beberapa baris.

4.   Adjust your reading rate to fit the content. Read faster for easier content, and more slowly for content that is harder to digest.

Sesuaikan kecepatan membaca anda sesuai isi bacaan. Baca dengan cepat untuk konten bacaan yang mudah saja, dan semakin lambat anda membaca berarti konten bacaan tersebut sulit untuk dicerna.

5. Give reading your full attention. Don't try to watch TV or listen to music while you read.

Perhatikan bacaan anda. Jangan mencoba menonton TV atau mendengarkan music ketika sedang membaca.

6.  Use a pen, your finger or a bookmark as a tool to guide your reading. Move the tool faster and your eyes will follow it at the speed you move it.

Gunakan pulpen, jari anda atau penunjuk halaman buku sebagai alat penunjuk bacaan anda. Gerakkan alat tersebut dengan cepat dan mata anda harus mengikutinya pada kecepatan anda menggerakkannya.

7.  Read in phrases rather than individual words. The more your eye stops in a sentence the more slowly you will read and the less you will comprehend what you read.

Bacalah frasa daripada kata perkata. Semakin mata anda berhenti pada sebuah kalimat, semakin lambat anda membaca dan semakin sedikit anda bisa memahami apa yang anda baca.

8.   Practice reading with a book you have already read. This will make it easier to get used to skipping certain words and passages.

Berlatihlah membaca dengan buku yang telah anda baca. Hal ini akan mempermudah anda untuk terbiasa melewati kata-kata tertentu dan bagian tertentu dalam buku.

9.  Prioritize content and skip unimportant information. Many people spend too much time reading unimportant content, which slows down the reading rate.

Prioritaskan isi dan lewati informasi yang tidak penting. Banyak orang menghabiskan banyak waktu untuk membaca konten yang tidak penting, yang akan memperlambat kecepatan membaca.

10.Pay attention the first time you read so you won't have to reread paragraphs or words.

Cold weather has a great effect on how our minds and our bodies work. Maybe that is why there are so many expressions that use the word cold.

For centuries, the body's blood has been linked closely with the emotions. People who show no human emotions or feelings, for example, are said to be cold-blooded.  Cold-blooded people act in cruel ways. They may do brutal things to others, and not by accident.

For example, a newspaper says the police are searching for a cold-blooded killer.  The killer murdered someone, not in self-defense, or because he was reacting to anger or fear.  He seemed to kill for no reason, and with no emotion, as if taking someone's life meant nothing.

Cold can affect other parts of the body.  The feet, for example.  Heavy socks can warm your feet, if your feet are really cold.  But there is an expression -- to get cold feet -- that has nothing to do with cold or your feet.

The expression means being afraid to do something you had decided to do. For example, you agree to be president of an organization.  But then you learn that all the other officers have resigned.  All the work of the organization will be your responsibility.  You are likely to get cold feet about being president when you understand the situation.

Cold can also affect your shoulder.

You give someone the cold shoulder when you refuse to speak to them. You treat them in a distant, cold way.  The expression probably comes from the physical act of turning your back toward someone, instead of speaking to him face-to-face.  You may give a cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise he made to you.  Or, to someone who has lied about you to others.

A cold fish is not a fish.  It is a person.  But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and shows no love or warmth.  A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone.

Someone who is a cold fish could be cold-hearted.  A cold-hearted person is someone who has no sympathy.  Several popular songs in recent years were about cold-hearted men or cold-hearted women who, without feeling, broke the hearts of their lovers.

Out in the cold is an expression often heard.  It means not getting something that everybody else got.  A person might say that everybody but him got a pay raise, that he was left out in the cold.  And it is not a pleasant place to be.
